Dinner Conversation with Amy
Hi, I’m Amy van der Linde and I speak to groups and coach individuals to recognize patterns and create solutions motivating action from kids to adults. In 2015, I studied about the power of the mind and I soon noticed that other people who consciously used positive thought and language in their thinking and speaking tended to create a new, brighter future for themselves- and the people around them.
WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE?
” I am not what has happened to me. I am what I choose to become.” Carl Jung
In this talk, The Mirror Touch Synesthete asks: WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE? Social-perception expert The Mirror Touch Synesthete has an innate ability to understand humans and groups. Her rare neurological trait allows her the ‘super-human-power’ of sharing your feelings (both physical and emotional), and sharing your thoughts. With speed that surprises even her, she intuits the real you under your social mask. The Mirror Touch Synesthete understands how difficult it is to become self-aware. She spent half a century completely unaware she was mirroring your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors! Now by way of her heightened sense of empathy and awareness, she sees your potential, the multiple opportunities you have to get there, and your self-defeating behaviors that are holding you back. In order to fully appreciate how you will be able to prevail over these self-defeating behaviors, it is important to understand the science of change. And that is what The Mirror Touch Synesthete has in store for you in this talk. She did it. So can you! The Mirror Touch Synesthete : Helping Others Help Themselves
LEARN TO READ PIANO MUSIC (IN AN HOUR)
“Life is like music for its own sake. We are living in an eternal now, and when we listen to music we are not listening to the past, we are not listening to the future, we are listening to an expanded present. “— Alan Watts, Philosopher
Amy van der Linde has been teaching piano since she was 7 years old. She grew up with musician parents who invited up to 50 children and later adults to come and live with her family to study music. With 26 pianos, everyone got to practice three hours a day. As a poly-synesthete, Amy is to quickly grasp what you know and understand about music. In this talk, she teaches you how to read music as a picture, observing the spatial relations between notes and time. What this means is that you needn’t spend hours memorizing note names. In fact, when Amy was 11, she was able to read and play Bach but did not yet know the names of the notes. Learn how you can do the same and save numerous computations as you read.
HAPPY BRAIN, HAPPY BEING
“…it is almost always the case that what has wounded you will also be instrumental in your healing.”
-Robert A. Johnson, Jungian Analyst and Author
Challenging our ideas of who we think we are and what we think is even possible, Amy van der Linde, a parenting educator, piano teacher, and former administrator for the Department of Health and Human Services, shares how she arrived at the startling conclusion that she had inherited the rare and only recently identified neurological trait of mirror-touch synesthesia, a trait that causes her to sense the same emotional and physical experiences of other people. With this new understanding of herself and a deeper understanding of others, van der Linde embarked on a personal quest for happiness. Her moving and inspirational stories of real-life applications for happy living, blended with her ability to demystify the brain and its habits, inspire us to move toward what we innately know is our true potential. Combining the fields of psychology, physics, and neuroscience, van der Linde provides us with simple and sound tools that catapult us beyond our limiting beliefs, and empowers us to carve out new neural pathways to create the life of our choice, filled with joy.
